But that didn’t stop the Nazis from exclaiming that they finally had, in the flesh, the wild, homicidal Yankee gangsters that had bombed, burned, and murdered so many Germans. Williams, wearing the only jacket to sport the plane’s moniker, unwittingly delivered the enemy a propaganda gift. Strangely enough, the crew had not been shot down in ‘Murder Inc.,’ but another airplane. When the crew of ‘Murder Inc.’ was shot down in 1944, they were captured and were quickly put to use for propaganda against the US. But in this case, the meaning behind the demonically dark name bestowed upon the plane and crew was worth its weight in gold to the Nazis. When Williams was asked if he wanted something drawn on his bomber jacket which incorporated their plane’s name, he simply responded, “Sure.” Lacking a sexy pinup girl or outlandish cartoon character, the jacket simply bears the name of the 351st Bomb Group’s plane, ‘Murder Inc,’ along with the Army Air Corps star symbol. There can be little doubt why such an infamous outfit would inspire a crew of young men participating in the violence of war and therefore would choose to name themselves after such a bloody band of outlaws. kept a deadly roster of hit men on the payroll. The logo on the back of the leather jacket itself didn’t exactly grab your attention, but apparently the only one ever made for the crew was given to Kenneth Daniel Williams, ‘Murder Inc.’s’ bombardier. “Murder Incorporated,” or “Murder Inc.” as they were more famously known, was the name given to Mafia kingpins Charles “Lucky” Luciano and Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel’s gang of ruthless killers. Infamous for their violence, which included murder-for-hire, Murder Inc. The link above takes you to photos of some of the coolest Army Air Corps jackets worn by bomber crew personnel during the war. One that I found missing from this list however, and a personal favorite of mine, is the ‘Murder Inc.’ bomber jacket. 7/22/2023 0 Comments Flirc vs argon neoAlternatively, you can also run OctoPrint on a Windows, Linux or Mac OS machine that you already have – as long as that’s not going to reboot in the middle of your prints someday. I’m using a Pi 4 with 2GB of RAM, and while OctoPrint can run on almost any Raspberry Pi ever made, you should stick to a Pi 3 and up for the best experience. First of all, you’re going to need a Raspberry Pi. So let’s start out with the hardware needed. So today I’m going to walk you through the setup process on a Raspberry Pi, go over the hardware you need and I’m going to share some of my favorite plugins for Octoprint. There are plugins now that do everything from AI print watching over sending status infos over your favorite messenger to timelapse tools. Because the thing is, Octoprint is so much more than just a way to start and check in on prints remotely: It’s turning more and more into a full-on 3D printer operating system. One of the most versatile pieces of tech for 3D printing is Octoprint – it’s a little webserver that runs on a Raspberry Pi and lets you remote-control a 3D printer from your computer. However, the Neo is stylish and cheaper if you opt for the case without the fan.OctoPrint is a fantastic way to remote-control your 3D printer – and it’s even more versatile than ever thanks to its built-in plugin system! In this video, I show you how to set up OctoPrint and which plugins are worth checking out. We like this an awful lot, but we like the original Argon One case a little more. It’s certainly a neat solution, and is cheaper if you opt for the Argon Neo case on its own. To its credit, the Argon Neo is a more minimalist design that’s slimmer and more in keeping with the design aesthetic of Raspberry Pi. It’s $15 for the Argon Neo case and $10 for the Fan HAT, which makes the package the same price as the larger Argon One. So, we are left wondering whether you actually need the fan? Which to buy? Still not enough for Raspberry Pi OS to begin throttling the CPU. Without the fan, the temperature ran up to 82☌ (and was kept in check by the passive cooling of the case alone). With that in mind, we overclocked our Raspberry Pi 4 to 2.0GHz and reran the test. Either with or without the fan, we didn’t get anywhere near that temperature. As the CPU temperature approaches 85☌, Raspberry Pi OS throttles the CPU speed to bring down the temperature. None of this is anywhere close to threatening Raspberry Pi performance. We ran the same test with the Argon Neo case without the fan attached and found the temperature maxed out at 58☌ – exactly the same temperature as with the fan attached. Things started at 37☌ and the temperature slowly rose and hovered around 55☌, before the fan duly kicked in and held the temperature in check for the full 15 minutes, maxing out at 58☌. We stress-tested a Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB) CPU at full capacity for 15 minutes with both Argon Neo and Argon Fan HAT attached. The fan speed is related to the CPU temp, kicking in at 55☌ and increasing to 100% fan speed at 65☌. When you’re done with accessing ports and GPIO pins, the metal lid snaps the whole kit shut via a magnet to form a stylish metal case. Unlike Argon One, you can also access Raspberry Pi’s Display and Camera ports (the latter only without the fan connected). (Although with the Argon Fan HAT attached, half of the GPIO pins numbers are hidden behind the board.) The metal case acts as a passive heatsink.Ī neat touch it shares with Argon One is the GPIO pin layout guide printed on the case. Putting it togetherĪs with other cases (such as Flirc), the metal part of the case connects to the CPU and RAM (with included thermal paste). Alongside the fan, The Argon Fan HAT provides a power button, which can perform safe shutdown, forced shutdown, and reboot Raspberry Pi. 7/22/2023 0 Comments A view to a kill video gameOverall, the CPC series sold approximately three million units. Amstrad computers also possessed high resolution graphics and text, making them both a popular business computer and gaming platform. James Bond 007: A View to a Kill was an 1985 text adventure game written and designed by future Bond continuation author Raymond Benson. Other computers of the era sold data devices such as disk drives and cassette players separately, and buyers were instructed to use home television sets as their monitors. The computer, keyboard and data storage devices were attached as a single unit, and users had the opportunity to also purchase a dedicated monitor. The main selling point of the series was its "all-in-one" advertising. The first three versions, the CPC464, CPC664, and CPC6128, were the most successful, though Amstrad continued the line with three more models until 1990. 7/22/2023 0 Comments Fire blight on treesIt is also advisable to remove trees where more than half the canopy is diseased. If the trunk becomes girdled, you will need to remove the tree entirely. If this causes a branch to become girdled (completely stripped for more than half of the circumference), the branch will need to be entirely removed. Keep scraping off the bark around the canker until all discolored tissue is removed, and then remove an additional 6 to 8 inches in every direction. If possible, remove the whole infected branch and the branch to which it is attached all the way to the collar (for information on making good pruning cuts, watch Pruning 101).įor branches that are too large to prune, or to remove cankers on the trunk itself, scrape off the outer and the inner bark entirely during the dormant season. Remove diseased branches 8 to 12 inches beyond the visible infection. Most disease control pruning is done in the summer and the winter, when the infection is not actively spreading through the tree. No matter what other products or methods you use to treat fire blight, pruning for disease management is essential. The most important of these is mechanical disease control with pruning. If your tree becomes infected with fire blight, there are several courses of treatment that are recommended by the University of California Cooperative Extension. There are many options to combat these pesky bugs read this article for the best solutions. Controlling sucking insects such as aphids and leafhoppers, which can carry this disease to new places, is another good prevention idea. To determine how much nitrogen you actually need to add, test your soil annually. To check if your tree is growing at a healthy rate, use the handy chart in this article. Over fertilization leads to rapid growth, and this abundant new growth is most at risk of becoming infected. Proper fertilization is also important to reduce the risk of fire blight. Trees that are planted too close together, too deeply, or in too much shade will become stressed and this will increase their susceptibility to disease. When planting your trees, select a site that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight, and plant your trees at the proper spacing and depth. A thorough list of varieties that are resistant and susceptible can be found on the Purdue University Extension website. Also select varieties that are grafted onto disease resistant rootstock, as are all of our trees. Select varieties that are resistant to fire blight, such as Seckel, Potomac and Warren pears, Hosui Asian pears, and Cox Orange Pippin apples. Good management begins before you even plant your trees. Keeping your trees healthy in the first place is the best solution when it comes to fire blight. This bacteria-laden liquid is then moved to other parts of the tree by insects, birds and other vectors, thus spreading the infection. In the spring, these cankers may ooze as the tree and the bacteria begin their new growth for the year. During the winter months, the bacteria in the canker will go into a state of dormancy along with the tree. These cankers are visible by their discoloration, often with red-brown streaking, and the edges of the canker may be blistered and raised. The bacteria lives inside the bark, festering in spots called cankers. These areas are easy to spot in the summer against the bright green of neighboring healthy growth. The dead leaves and fruit remain attached and can be brown or black. Affected branches often curl back in a “shepherd’s crook” or J-shape. Depending on the severity of the infection, leaves can be patchy with dead spots, or entire sections of new growth and even whole limbs can be killed off. Is Your Tree Infected?įire blight is named for the scorched appearance of infected leaves and branches. However, it can be kept under control using organic methods to prevent the disease from spreading and killing the tree. Once a tree is infected, it is nearly impossible to eliminate. It is caused by the bacteria Erwinia amylovora. Fire Blight Is A Common Disease For Roses, Pears and Applesįire blight is a common and potentially fatal disease among trees in the rose family, especially pears and apples. 7/21/2023 0 Comments Walmart photo print to canvasProduces very good quality prints at low prices. Canvas prints exhibit high resistance to atmospheric ozone, have strong water-resistance properties, and are extremely resistant to damage caused by storage or display in high-humidity environments. Canvas images printed with Epson UltraChrome HD Pigment Ink Technology are expected to have WIR (Wilhelm Imagine Research) Album and Dark Storage Permanence Ratings well in excess of 200 years. They are more prone to fading if exposed to airborne cooking and cleaning fumes, for example. The degree to which they can fade depends on the canvas and ink combination used, the amount of direct UV light the canvas is exposed to, and the environment in which the image is hung. Do canvas prints fade?Ĭanvas prints are subject to some degree of fading over time. You can see that even with the blue gray island, the Accessible Beige compliments it and warms up the entire space. A little lighter and brighter was all it needed! This was another beautiful home that I helped specify color and finishes for. I did end up cutting the paint by 50% here as the full strength of the Accessible Beige was reading too heavy in their space. This was the first kitchen I had the pleasure of working on and although you can only see it here above the window, we carried the color through the bulk of their main level. Here’s another space from our master bedroom. Making sure it worked with the carpet was key and then I was able to decorate around it. Here’s our master bedroom that I have shared before (see the full post here). I wanted to share some of those spaces with you today so I can make a case for this beautiful hue. It gives a great warmth to our walls that I absolutely love and I have carried that love into a number of other homes that I’ve had the chance to work in. It technically has a green undertone but it can be a bit of a chameleon in different spaces. Accessible Beige actually borders being a gray and falls into the greige category. We immediately picture those warm yellow and orange beiges of decades past and in fear turn to a grey that may end up feeling too cold. These days I feel like the term beige can scare people away. This color runs though most of our home including our living room, kitchen, master bedroom and our sons bedroom. With all that being said, today I wanted to share one of my favorite neutral paint colors, Sherwin Willams Accessible Beige. Studying under Color Expert, Maria Killam last year and making the investment to have her color boards on hand now makes this process exponentially easier! Having the top Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore colors on hand to move around and compare/contrast allows me not only to see how each shade would look, but also to show my clients why one color will work better than another. I eventually came to a decision that I was happy with for every space, but it was quite a time (and money) consuming commitment. I painted a large white square in every room and then painted 10 different shades of greige to sit and stare at. Well, I didn’t understand any of that when I was selecting paint colors for our home 3.5 years ago. Understanding the way that undertones play such an important rule in picking paint colors (when it comes to neutrals especially) has made all the difference when specifying colors for my clients. I love finding the perfect color or exact neutral that a room calls for. You guys know that I love sharing my style inspiration, but coming in as a close second is my love for working with paint. 7/21/2023 0 Comments Mathematica symbolic solverFor instance, for a vibrating string with length l, Ω is the interval. PDEs that come from real-world applications are limited to be operational in a domain Ω. Let us see what changes in this regard when we are dealing with PDEs in simple cases. Recall that the general solution of a linear homogeneous ordinary differential equation (ODE) of order m is a linear combination of m independent solutions with m arbitrary constants. Note that for PDEs for which symbolic solution methods are yet not available, we recommend using NDSolve. For each class, we will be going over the methods that are available to solve those problems. We will start with the simplest possible PDE and then continue with more difficult ones. In this monograph, we will be studying PDEs following the previous classification. Īnother consequence of linearity is that with being a linear differential operator, if a solution of (homogeneous solution) is added to a solution of (inhomogeneous solution), then an inhomogeneous solution is obtained. if is not identically zero, then the equation is called inhomogeneous. Equation ( 11 ) is called homogeneous if the right-hand side is identically zero. This is also called the superposition principle. Throughout this monograph, the following notational convention of partial derivatives will be used for simplicity:Īn important property that results from linearity of the differential operator is that if and are both solutions, so is. For instance, a temperature field may depend on both location x and time t. Unlike ordinary differential equations (ODEs), where the unknown function depends only on one variable, the unknown function depends on several variables in PDEs. Ī PDE is an equation containing various partial derivatives of a multivariable function. Hence, we have equations relating partial derivatives of some unknown quantity that we would like to find. Derivatives in these equations represent quantities like velocity, acceleration, force, friction, flux and current. In fact, well-known laws of physics, such as Maxwell ’s equations, the Navier –Stokes equations, the heat equation, the wave equation and Schr ödinger ’s equation of quantum mechanics, are stated in terms of PDEs that is, these laws describe physical phenomena by relating space and time derivatives. Most physical phenomena in fluid dynamics, electricity, electromagnetism, mechanics, classical optics or in heat flow are described by partial differential equations (PDEs). 7/21/2023 0 Comments Utopia thomas more schmoopAn inheritance had allowed the family to acquire a shop in which they sold china and sporting goods, although it failed to prosper: the stock was old and worn out, and the location was poor. Called "Bertie" by his family, he was the fourth and last child of Joseph Wells, a former domestic gardener, and at the time a shopkeeper and professional cricketer and Sarah Neal, a former domestic servant. Herbert George Wells was born at Atlas House, 162 High Street in Bromley, Kent, on 21 September 1866. Young Wells, "Bertie" as he was known, c. Wells was a diabetic and co-founded the charity The Diabetic Association (known today as Diabetes UK) in 1934. In his later years, he wrote less fiction and more works expounding his political and social views, sometimes giving his profession as that of journalist. He was also an outspoken socialist from a young age, often (but not always, as at the beginning of the First World War) sympathising with pacifist views. Wells's earliest specialised training was in biology, and his thinking on ethical matters took place in a Darwinian context. Wells was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature four times. Novels of social realism such as Kipps (1905) and The History of Mr Polly (1910), which describe lower-middle-class English life, led to the suggestion that he was a worthy successor to Charles Dickens, but Wells described a range of social strata and even attempted, in Tono-Bungay (1909), a diagnosis of English society as a whole. His most notable science fiction works include The Time Machine (1895), which was his first novel, The Island of Doctor Moreau (1896), The Invisible Man (1897), The War of the Worlds (1898), the military science fiction The War in the Air (1907), and the dystopian When the Sleeper Wakes (1910). Wells rendered his works convincing by instilling commonplace detail alongside a single extraordinary assumption per work – dubbed "Wells's law" – leading Joseph Conrad to hail him in 1898 with "O Realist of the Fantastic!". Brian Aldiss referred to Wells as the "Shakespeare of science fiction", while Charles Fort called him a "wild talent". His science fiction imagined time travel, alien invasion, invisibility, and biological engineering before these subjects were common in the genre. As a futurist, he wrote a number of utopian works and foresaw the advent of aircraft, tanks, space travel, nuclear weapons, satellite television and something resembling the World Wide Web. In addition to his fame as a writer, he was prominent in his lifetime as a forward-looking, even prophetic social critic who devoted his literary talents to the development of a progressive vision on a global scale. Wells is now best remembered for his science fiction novels and has been called the "father of science fiction." His non-fiction output included works of social commentary, politics, history, popular science, satire, biography, and autobiography. Prolific in many genres, he wrote more than fifty novels and dozens of short stories. Herbert George Wells (21 September 1866 – 13 August 1946) was an English writer. |
